Vigilantia was founded in January 2006 by David G. Peters Ph.D.

Dr. Peters is a genome scientist, geneticist and molecular/cell biologist with extensive experience of both academic and commercial biotechnology. He has a strong track record of innovation at the interface between genomic science and translational medicine.

During his career, Dr. Peters has advised both large and small biotechnology companies, regional development agencies and biotechnology consultanting firms. He has extensive experience of communicating scientific ideas and discoveries both verbally and via printed media.

Dr Peters completed a Ph.D. in genetics and molecular biology at the University of Liverpool in 1994 before carrying out post-doctoral work in Human Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh, USA.

Between 1998 and 2004 he was an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Human Genetics, Critical/Tertiary Care and Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Between 2004 and 2006 he was a lecturer in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Liverpool. In 2001 he spent 12 months as a visiting fellow at AstraZeneca.

Dr. Peters is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the University of Pittsburgh and Scientific Director of the Center for Fetal Medicine at the Magee Women's Research Institute.

Dr. Peters has authored numerous scientific papers across a range of disciplines including cancer, stroke genetics, chronic pulmonary disease, vascular biology, psychiatric genetics, endocrine genetics and basic molecular science.
